I love gardening. If I could own one of those vast kitchen gardens like you see in France or England, I would forgo all other creative outputs in the summer just to care for my jungle. When I was little my mother and I would garden every summer. I remember poking seeds into the ground, making the walls of dirt around plants to keep water in, pulling weeds, playing with fat fuzzy caterpillars on my tomatoes, and picking lettuce leaves to go in my dinner salad. Over time a honeysuckle tree grew up and over our garden, shading it from view, making the garden too dark to grow plants anymore. I remember trying to put things in it, but I’d forget to water them, and the garden simply died away. My brother eventually covered the ground with flagstone and made a patio of sorts out of it, but I miss my garden terribly. I’ve lived in apartments and dorms since leaving home, and haven’t had quite the luck with growing plants indoors. That is until this year…

For my birthday my roommate gave me flower pots and seeds for herbs! So did my sister! I was elated!!

I love that I finally have a windowsill and some light to grow with!

I have cherry tomatoes, yellow peppers, mint, basil, thyme, parsley, cilantro, rosemary, lemon grass, chives, nasturtium, and dill! I’m still missing lavender (not of the English variety), aloe, sage, and chocolate mint (yum!), but I am having a hard time finding these last ones. Also, does anyone have tips on growing cilantro? Mine isn’t doing so well. I have two batch of them, and the ones I started from baby plants I potted it in a teapot. They have drainage in the bottom, but they just don’t seem to want to grow back all their legs that I used for cooking my breakfast burritos! Any thoughts?

This is my garden angel I found in a box on the side of the street walking home form work one day…

Well, that’s my garden. Someday I might get the real deal, but for now… I’ll be content waking up to my pretty green things in the window every morning. What a great way to start my days!
